What is a fractional laser?

Fractional laser actually refers to a working mode of the laser. As long as the diameter of the laser beam (spot) is less than 500 μm and regularly arranged in a lattice, the working mode of the laser at this time is a fractional laser.  Fractional laser is a minimally invasive treatment between invasive and non-invasive.

     

How it works?

Using the fractional treatment concept, countless wounds that are too small to be seen by the naked eye are created on part of the skin. Superpulsed CO2 Fractional Laser

The wavelength of super pulse CO2 lattice laser is 10600nm, which belongs to exfoliation laser. Compared with the traditional CO2 lattice, the laser energy can quickly reach the peak value, thereby reducing the damage to the surrounding skin. However, the current CO2 dot matrix machines are basically equipped with ultra-pulse.

     

Ultra-pulse ablative CO2 fractional laser can instantly heat the water in the tissue to above 100 ℃, and when it acts on the skin, it vaporizes the epidermis and the dermis (scar) of different depths, causing the skin to produce vaporization pits.

   Due to its large peak energy, small thermally-induced side damage zone, accurate vaporized tissue, and light damage to surrounding tissue, the laser wound can heal in 3 to 5 days, and it is less likely to cause complications such as hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation. In the laser non-fractal mode, the adverse reactions (scar, erythema, long recovery time, etc.) and the curative effect are not obvious, showing a good therapeutic effect.

Ablative /non-Ablative 

Ablative laser will generate a high temperature in an instant, vaporizing the epidermis and part of the dermis at the irradiated part, just like "scraping a layer of skin", and then the skin here will grow again, and then stimulate the new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, so that To achieve the purpose of "laser skin resurfacing".

Non-ablative, there is no "peeling" step, there is no visible trauma, and the skin can be repaired under milder stimulation. In between is microexfoliation.

 

    Compared with ablative laser, non-ablative laser has less damage, faster recovery and weaker curative effect. Ablative fractional laser treatments are more effective than non-ablative fractional laser treatments, mainly because ablative CO2 fractional laser penetrates deeper into hyperplastic and contractile scars, coagulates surrounding tissue, and induces a stronger remodeling response.

So, in general, exfoliative fractions are more effective than non-exfoliative ones, especially on sunken scars (pockets). However, the recovery period of the peeling matrix is longer, and it is easy to have the risk of pigmentation (that is, black and white on the face).
